What is a 1921 silver dollar?

The United States Mint made silver dollars in two distinct designs in 1921: It’s really easy to tell if a 1921 silver dollar is a Morgan dollar versus a Peace dollar… The Morgan dollar was minted from 1878 through 1904… and once more in 1921. The Morgan silver dollar was designed by its namesake designer George T. Morgan.

Where did the 1921 Morgan silver dollar come from?

The 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar was produced in three mints: Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. The New Orleans Mint used an "O" and the San Francisco Mint an "S”. The main mint in Philadelphia did not use a mintmark. Proof examples of Morgan Dollars from all years, including 1921, are rare which makes them expensive.

Can you still buy 1921 Morgan dollars?

The new silver certificates mentioned above are the Series of 1923. According to a notice in the June 1934 issue of The Numismatist (p. 416), collectors could still purchase Uncirculated 1921 Morgan Dollars for "the face value of the coins and an amount sufficient to cover the mail charrges by first-class mail."
